Three years ago at the age of 62 I had a benign tumour removed from a nerve channel at the base of my skull\top of my spine. The surgery was lengthy but successful. As these types of tumour can sometimes re-grow I have MRI scans from time to time to check on this. I had some MRI scans a couple of weeks ago and saw Mr. White afterwards. He was, as always, very easy to speak with and very kind. He reiterated that if at any time any similar symptoms manifested themselves to get in touch with him. I can never thank him enough for what he did for me and is definitely always at the top of my Christmas card list. Ann Green.

I feel absolutely amazing! I did almost straight away after surgery on my spine to remove what was thought initially to be a tumour this was later found to have been a bronchogenic cyst which i was born with. Mr White is my HERO and has helped me get my life back, i went back to work 8 weeks after having major surgery and i feel great so this is a great testament to Mr White and his team. While in hospital Mr White and his team checked in with me every day, and not only was he very helpful to me he was also very supportive and helpfull to my family. I liked the fact he told me everything and not just the good bits so that i could make an informed decision before agreeing to go ahead with the surgery. The care i received was top class. I also liked the fact Mr White told me after my operation to now go and live my life within comfort and common sense and that life would be my physio he was right after previously having physio for another problem i totally agree i have come a long way at my own pace which produced much better results for me. I really love that he writes everything up in letter form so you have a record of what has been said and what will happen etc this not only helped me remember but was also great that i could give my work copies so they knew what was happening and its always accepted better if its from your surgeon in a letter. Thank you Mr White your art work will always take pride of place on my back and i am so proud of it and i will keep in touch like you asked me to (Mr white's care doesnt just end there he really wants to know how you are doing even after he has discharged you)

After spending several months suffering excruciating headaches, I had an MRI at The Nuffield Hospital in Derby. Although I was diagnosed with a chiari malformation, I was lucky that one of the consultants was not 100 percent happy with the diagnosis, and referred me to see Mr Barrie White. After looking at my MRI scan and listening carefully to my symptoms, Mr White knew straight away that I had suffered a spinal/brain leak. After consulting with his radiologists and after ordering a full brain/spinal MRI, this diagnosis was confirmed. I feel that if I had not been referred to Mr White, then my final diagnosis would have been incorrect. I have never felt that any doctor has been so empathetic and understanding. One of my own GPs even told me my headaches were nothing to worry about and I "would feel better when I was back at work' so to have someone who really listened to me and genuinely seemed concerned was a revelation. Mr White has gone beyond what I would expect from a busy consultant, informing me by post/ email of any developments relating to my scans over a 4 month period and responding to any questions I had via email. Although I haven't required any treatment as of yet, as I appear to be self-healing, if I ever require any treatment in the future I would only want to see Mr White. I only hope that if treatment were necessary, Mr White won't have retired! He is an amazing man, a top class consultant, and if necessary, I would travel across the country to see him!

My 86 year old father recently suffered from a sudden onset of chronic pain in his back and loss of sensation in his legs. He was referred to Mr White by his GP (after the DRI could not offer an opening for 10 weeks). He was seen, diagnosed, operated on and recovered very swiftly. The outcome was better than expected and has even corrected the misdiagnosis of diabetic neuropathy for his loss of sensation in his leg. His patient care and communication skills before, during and after the surgery cannot be faulted according to my father (who, he would be the first to admit, is not an easy man to please). My father particularly appreciated the fact he had telephoned my step-mother as soon as possible to let her know the surgery was a success. Although I have not met Mr White I felt the need to record my father's feedback.

Mr Barrie White has given the most excellent care at all times. My diagnosis was dealt with swiftly and efficiently, no time was spared in seeing me personnally after my scan showed the tumor: a Meningioma on my spine. He gave a thorough explanation of my condition and discusssed all aspects of the operation and recovery process. All other Drs involved, from my local GP onward, contacted each other promptly after the diagnosis, to ensure no time was wasted in getting the treatment I needed. Mr White also spoke to me personally, by telephone on a regular basis, to keep up to date with my condition while I was waiting for surgery and to deal with any queries I, or my family may have had. He ensured the surgery was undertaken as soon as possible, taking my persoanal situation into consideration; giving time to prepare me with steroids and ensuring my underlying health was at it's best prior to the big operation. I also met other members of Mr White's team, who were very personable and exceptionally professional and knowledgeable, and ensured a thorough investigation was made of my overall health and discussed the operation and recovery process with me and my husband. This gave me confidence in all aspects of the operation and personalised the whole experience. When I was in hospital, the staff involved in preparing me for the operation, nurses, porters, Dr's etc; were excellent, showing a freindly, caring and positive attitued which expelled any of the usual, pre-op anxiety. After the surgery, Mr White personally spoke to me on several occasions and both he and his assistant, Laurie, ensured my aftercare was correct and that I was recovering as expected; any problems or issues were discussed and dealt with. The staff in the 'special care' unit, in the days immediatley after the operation were superb; ensuring that all aspect of care at this most vulnerable time was undertaken thoroughly and with care and attention in a friendly and personable way. I cannot express how pleased I have been with the care given by Mr Barrie White and his team in dealing with the Meningioma on my spine
